Baby Talk Controversy
It seems like Obama is about to get crushed by Palin. Is it over for Obama?
Yesterday, literally, it seemed like Obama was #1 all over the place, then along came Sarah and her baby drama controversy and all of the sudden people love her. (Sorta reminiscent of how Madonna created her own controversies so people would talk about her and then buy her records … or maybe I’m cynical)
I certainly hope so.
Baby Talk Controversy

I know this will start some controversy, but what is your stance on abortion?
Just want to hear opinions because yesterday in my Creative Writing class, we were talking about it.
My opinion is that every woman should have to right to have an abortion if she wishes to. the reason is that if she is young and not ready, the child may live a sad life in poverty. if the woman just doesn’t want a baby, then if the baby is born it might come into a life of abusiveness, or it may live in an orphanage for his entire childhood.
But what is your opinion? are you pro choice, pro life, or undecided? or should there be exceptions?
We have to keep the right to choose in my opinion. There are young women that get raped, part of incest, or babies diagnosed with poor fetal outcomes. A lot of people that do not agree with abortion in general will be more accepting to these situations. The problem if we say “abortion is fine in a case of rape, incest, harm to the mother, and ‘incompatible with life’ diagnosis of a baby” then you will have many women claiming these situations in order to have an abortion.
For woman that has been raped or claims rape: Then you are stuck with finding out if a woman is lying about a rape and then do you force that woman to go to trial? Do you force a 15 year old girl to face her rapist when she wants to move on with her life? No to mention most cases of rape do not have enough evidence to prosecute, let alone when the evidence is a month or two old when the woman decides to get her abortion. What do you do with a 13 year old girl that was so scared that she needed an abortion that she lies and eventually gets caught before she has her abortion?? Does she go to jail or do you taint her criminal background, making it harder for her to get a good job to support a baby she doesn’t want or do you force her to give her baby up for adoption?
Other choice is what do you consider incest? If it’s a father raping her daughter only, or a mother getting pregnant by her son?? What about 1st cousins, brothers and sister, aunts, 2nd cousins, 3rd cousins, 1st cousins once removed etc…you can see where these boundaries also become unclear.
Then have an incompatible with life diagnosis. I personally had this happen to me just 2 months ago. At 12 weeks pregnant I found out our baby had a condition that is 1:100,000 chances were that the baby would not make it past delivery and not more than 48 hours. They couldn’t pin point 100% sure without numerous genetic testing that would cost us $1000′s of dollars and may still not be able to give an exact condition. You cannot get a medical doctor to give you any kind ONE HUNDRED PERCENT sure answer. We were told that they were 99% that our baby had a lethal form of skeletal dysplasia, he had all of the signs and since it was discovered so early on that it was probably a very severe form of a condition that almost always kills (if not leaves the child permanently attached to tubes in a hospital). If you didn’t allow me to have to choice I would have to knowingly spend the next 6 months even further bonding with a baby that I wanted, having people in public ask me when I’m due and what I’m having. Emotional torture. So where would the boundary be clear here…would I have to spend thousands of dollars and have a doctor tell me that he is 100% sure that he will die? What is considered a treat to my life? Carrying a baby that may die inside of me and could decompose causing my reproductive organs to not work in the future? Or does it have to be immediate? Does high blood pressure that can be complicated by pregnancy count? What do you consider life threatening?
Some women choose abortion because their baby has a condition that may not be life threatening that the parents can’t handle. That child, if placed up for adoption, will more than likely not be adopted. End up in and out of group homes, possibly being physically, sexually, or emotionally abused. End up never knowning what love is like (not having parents and may not be emotionally developed enough to find love).
These situations are not completely black and white enough for you to get their definition placed in a law. It is easy to say to place your baby up for adoption, but the truth is most wont. Half of teens that get pregnant chose abortion and less than 10% chose adoption. Teen moms mostly keep their babies, grow up in poverty, and their children often end up in less than positive situations. The need for white babies is high for adoption, but there are many many children in foster care. Before you can tell people to give their baby up for adoption, we should find homes for the children already in foster care that need good lives.
What bothers me is the number of people that are pro life are republicans, they believe that a woman shouldn’t be able to have an abortion while at the same time believing the money they earn should be theirs and not taxing to pay for welfare etc. (they often get annoyed that their hard earned money goes to a woman with 6 kids she can’t afford). The key is education. Teach women how to understand their body, make birth control and condoms accessible. Increase the usage of Depo that doesn’t expect a 13 year old that can’t remember to do her homework to take a pill everyday (I agree they shouldn’t be having sex either, but saying that doesn’t solve a problem…only hides to one).
