Baby Clothes Goodwill
How do I graciously turn down old baby hand-me-downs?
I have nothing against hand-me-downs. I am willing to take hand-me-downs that are from the past five or six years. Especially clothing that is in good shape. This is my first baby and it would be appreciated.
The problem is that my mother called last night telling me that my aunt wants to give me some of my cousin’s (her granddaughter’s) old baby toys. My cousin is 13 years old now. I told my mom that I didn’t want them because I don’t want the hassle of trying to figure out if this stuff was still safe. Plus, it’s old.
My mother…and this is not the first time she’s said something like this…said, “You survived with stuff from yard sales.”
Fine, whatever. I can handle my mom. But I know that my aunt will be trying to give this stuff to me the next time I see her. My aunt is 14 years older than my mother, so she is of the generation that will not understand why I don’t want to take this stuff. Heck, Goodwill won’t even take baby stuff because of safety issues, why should I?
I was given a few really old toys and I still don’t quite understand why, but I appreciated the gesture as the giver was so happy to give it me and who knows, maybe my son will play with it some day after I make sure it’s safe and I’ve given it a good clean.
My MIL still had some clothes from when my boyfriend was a baby and I do put our son in them sometimes. It’s just real special to me that our little man is wearing something that his daddy wore when he was tiny. But that’s something different altogether of course. I anyone else had given me 29 year old baby clothes I would’ve looked at them like they just came falling out of the sky….lol
Anyway, take the stuff. Use it or not or some of it that up to you. Like said above, keep a few things lying around for the family to see. It just doesn’t seem worth starting a whole big thing over with family. Your aunt is thinking she’s doing something good and honestly, if the toys are safe you’re child will love playing with them. They do not have our snobbish streaks yet to think that something is too old to play with
They’ll think it’s all cool.
good luck

Where can I get christmas toys for my daughter she will be a year old and i cant afford to get her anything?
Iam a single mother in college and Iam on welfare. I had to quit my job when I started school, its hard to make ends meet but Iam an honor student and I get to spend time with my baby. I get our clothes from goodwill and I would love to get her a toy and a new outfit. I know she’s too young to remember this but if your a parent you’ll know how bad it hurts not to be able to buy a gift on christmas.
awww!!
i don’t know what you can really do.. but if i were you i would join a forum called christian forums.. www.christianforums.com … and then i would put a post on there, and people will hopefully help.
also, try going to the salvation army.
good luck, and have a merry christmas.
